Online discussion has been triggered by media personality Ifedayo Agoro’s candid remarks regarding kneeling to serve a husband at weddings.
Despite joyfully feeding her husband throughout the ceremony, the founder of The Diary of a Naija Girl, who married content writer Frank Itom in April 2025, claimed that she was unable to kneel.
She said that even though she served cake to her spouse during her wedding, she declined to kneel.
Read her words below;
“I don’t like it when you go for a wedding and they tell the bride to feed her husband kneeling down. I fed my husband cake, but I didn’t kneel. I don’t want to be a hypocrite. I can’t kneel.”
Since then, her remarks have sparked debate, particularly among Nigerians, who view kneeling as a traditional sign of respect in marriage.
Some contend that couples should be allowed to determine what constitutes respect in their own households, while others maintain that customs should be respected.
Numerous people on social media could identify, with one commenting:“Same! I can’t kneel either. Respect is about how you treat your partner.”
Another wrote, “Tradition is important, but personal choice matters too. Couples should do what feels right for them.”
