“Why are girls still cutting hair in 2026?” — Enioluwa Adeoluwa questions public school rules

Enioluwa Adeoluwa, a Nigerian influencer and media personality, has highlighted the ongoing implementation of draconian hair standards for female students in public schools across the country.

Adeoluwa recently spoke with some students, and the females stated that their colleges do not allow them to plait their hair. To comply with school restrictions, many students must wear short or low-cut hairstyles.

Something that may seem small, but genuinely bothers me, is why public schools in Nigeria still ask girls to cut their hair. To what end? What exactly is the point?”Adeoluwa enquired, posting his thoughts on social media, where the post elicited immediate comments.

Online responses have been split. Some social media users condemned the regulations as antiquated and restrictive, claiming that they limit personal speech.

Others defended the schools, citing uniformity and discipline as justifications for retaining the hair rules.

Enioluwa Prince Adeoluwalisten, born on July 6, 1999, is an actor, director, producer, and TV personality.

He was recognised for his material on fashion, leisure, and personal growth, and in 2022 he was appointed as a European Union African ambassador.

Adeoluwa was also named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Africa 2023 list and will executive produce the online series All of Us in 2024.

The continuous debate over hair policy in Nigeria mirrors broader issues of gender norms, student rights, and school discipline, prompting calls for policies that strike a balance between conformity and personal expression.
