According to a report by DAILY POST on Thursday August 20 2026, African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will be his final attempt to become Nigeria’s president.

This was contained in a statement made by the former vice president during a Facebook Live session on Thursday.

Atiku, who has contested the presidency several times under different political parties, said he would not seek the office again after the 2027 election, regardless of the outcome.

The former vice president served as Nigeria’s vice president from 1999 to 2007 and has remained active in Nigerian politics for decades.

Atiku recently secured the ADC presidential ticket for the 2027 election. He said his decision to stop contesting would remain unchanged whether he wins or loses the election.

In his words, “Whether I win or lose, 2027 will be my last time contesting for the presidency.”
