A Nigerian woman has expressed frustration after allegedly losing her home following the sudden expansion of a road in Abuja.
In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, the woman claimed that authorities gave residents an initial 21-day notice to vacate their properties but allegedly returned less than five days later, giving them only a few minutes to leave.
She questioned the decision to expand the road, claiming that the route was rarely used and arguing that there were other pressing issues in the area that deserved greater attention.
According to her, officials allegedly arrived at the property and gave residents just 15 minutes to vacate the building, threatening to pull down the structure if they failed to comply.
In her words, she said:
“You came here, you gave a 21-day notice for people to pack up, and in less than five days, you are standing outside and screaming that they have 15 minutes to leave the building, if not you’re going to hit the wall.”
She further alleged that the demolition began while some residents were still inside the building, leaving several people unable to retrieve all their belongings.
The woman also questioned why authorities allegedly failed to provide alternative accommodation or support for those displaced, stressing that finding affordable housing in Abuja can take months.
“How do you make people homeless? Are you not just making things worse for everybody? And I’m literally back to square one, I’m literally homeless,” she added.
The emotional video has attracted attention online, with viewers expressing concern over the alleged treatment of the residents and questioning the circumstances surrounding the road expansion and demolition.
