According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the United States carried out fresh airstrikes on three locations in Iran’s southwestern Bushehr province early Wednesday, according to Iranian state media, marking another escalation in the ongoing military confrontation between the two countries.
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reported that the strikes targeted areas in Bushehr and Dashti counties, including a location near the city of Khormoj, the capital of Dashti County. The attacks reportedly triggered multiple explosions, raising concerns over the security of one of Iran’s most strategically important provinces, which is home to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
Ehsan Jahanian, the deputy governor of Bushehr Province for political and security affairs, confirmed that explosions were heard in several parts of the province following the missile strikes. However, he stated that there were no reported casualties from the attack on the Khormoj area.
Although one of the targeted locations was in the vicinity of Bushehr’s nuclear infrastructure, Iranian authorities did not indicate that the nuclear facility itself had been struck or damaged. The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant remains one of Iran’s most significant civilian nuclear installations and has long been closely monitored by the international community due to regional security concerns.
The latest operation forms part of a broader US military campaign against Iranian targets. American forces have intensified their operations over the past week, with US Central Command announcing on Tuesday that it had conducted its 11th consecutive night of strikes against Iranian positions.
The overnight attacks reportedly extended beyond Bushehr Province, with Iranian air defence systems activated around the capital, Tehran, and in several other regions as authorities responded to incoming threats. Residents in multiple cities reported hearing explosions as the latest wave of strikes unfolded.
The conflict between Washington and Tehran has continued to deepen despite previous diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities. The United States has maintained that its military operations are intended to weaken Iran’s military capabilities and counter threats against American interests and allied forces in the Middle East.
Iran, meanwhile, has responded with retaliatory strikes targeting facilities and military bases that it says are used by US forces across several countries in the region. Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that continued American attacks would be met with further military action.
The renewed fighting comes despite a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding signed by both countries in June. The agreement was intended to halt the conflict that erupted in February and establish a framework for negotiations toward a long-term peace settlement.
However, the continued exchange of missile and air strikes suggests that the agreement has failed to stop hostilities, with both sides accusing each other of violating its terms.
