Explosions, Airstrikes Reported Across Southern Iran Amid New US Attacks

According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Thursday, June 11, 2026, a new wave of explosions and airstrikes was reported across several locations in southern Iran early Thursday, according to Iranian state media, as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to intensify.

Iranian state television reported that five “enemy projectiles” struck a site in the Kargan area of Minab, a coastal city in Hormozgan Province. The broadcast did not immediately provide details on casualties or the extent of damage caused by the strikes.

Separately, residents and local media outlets reported additional explosions in the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, one of Iran’s most important naval and commercial hubs located along the Strait of Hormuz. The area is known for its critical infrastructure, including shipping facilities and military installations.

Further reports indicated that air defense systems were activated in multiple other locations across Hormozgan Province, including Jask, Qeshm, and Sirik. Witnesses described loud blasts and sustained anti-aircraft activity during the early hours of the morning, suggesting coordinated defensive responses across the region.

The Iranian authorities have not yet released a comprehensive official casualty figure or full assessment of the damage from the latest incidents. However, state media framed the attacks as part of what it described as ongoing “enemy aggression” targeting strategic sites in the south of the country.

The developments came shortly after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had initiated a new series of “self-defense” strikes against multiple targets inside Iran. According to CENTCOM, the operations were conducted under the direction of US President Donald Trump.

In its statement, the US military said the strikes were a response to what it described as Iran’s “continued aggression” in the region. CENTCOM added that the targeted operations were designed to neutralize perceived threats to US personnel and allied interests, particularly in areas linked to regional maritime security and military activity.
