According to a report by The Times of Israel published on Sunday, August 2, 2026, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reportedly accepted a compromise proposal concerning the operation of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a development that is said to have influenced United States President Donald Trump’s decision to halt a planned military strike against Iran.
The report stated that the agreement was developed through joint diplomatic efforts involving officials from the United States and Qatar. Sources familiar with the negotiations said the proposal was designed to reduce tensions surrounding one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.
Under the reported arrangement, vessels entering the Persian Gulf would navigate through the Iranian-controlled side of the Strait of Hormuz, while outbound ships would leave through the Omani side. The framework is intended to maintain the flow of maritime traffic while addressing the security concerns of the parties involved.
According to the report, Oman has accepted the proposed arrangement but has requested firm assurances that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will fully comply with the terms of the agreement. Qatari officials are reportedly engaged in discussions with Iranian authorities in an effort to secure those guarantees and ensure the successful implementation of the deal.
The report attributed the information to Barak Ravid, a journalist associated with Israel’s Channel 12 and the U.S.-based news outlet Axios. Ravid, who is known for covering Middle East diplomacy and international affairs, cited sources familiar with the negotiations.
