Three teenagers are being held on suspicion of m3rder after a 14-year-old boy was shot and k!lled in broad daylight in southeast London.
Around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, police were called to reports of a shooting on Woolwich’s Lord Warwick Street. The boy was declared d3ad at the scene despite the paramedics’ best efforts.
Specialized officers have been notified and are providing support to his family. An 18-year-old man and two boys, ages 14 and 16, have been detained in relation to the incident and are being held while the investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses reported seeing a group of youths running through the area shortly before the sh00ting. One person claimed they saw individuals carrying weapons and wearing face coverings near nearby shops on Kingsman Parade.
Local residents described the incident as deeply disturbing. One said they heard gunshots, while another spoke of the growing concerns about serious youth crime in the area.
Police have set up a cordon around the scene, which is close to Woolwich Ferry and Woolwich Dockyard station, and officers remain in the area. Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, said officers are working quickly to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family and loved ones,” she said. “We are aware of the concern that this incident will cause the local community. We have already made three arrests and our investigation continues at pace.” She also urged anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward.
The k!lling comes less than a week after another fatal shooting in London, adding to concerns about rising violence and youth-related crime in the capital. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan described recent incidents as “unacceptable”, while other political figures have pointed to wider concerns about public safety and disorder.
