A woman has sparked debate online after strongly opposing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and encouraging young Nigerians to cease participation in the program.

In a video that has spread on social media, the woman questioned the scheme’s worth and advocated that graduates should reconsider participating.

She insisted that a major drop in participation would require officials to reconsider the initiative and answer critics’ concerns.

Her views have elicited replies from social media users, with some supporting her position and others defending the scheme’s usefulness.

While giving her thoughts, the woman argued that many former corps members do not believe they benefited significantly from the scheme.

She also blasted businesses who require a NYSC certificate as a condition of employment, calling the practice unfair to graduates who choose not to enrol.

“The first step to rebel in this country is by not going for NYSC that is the first step to rebellion. You people should stop that nonsense what are you using it for? If na now wey be say I dey like this person come tell me make I go NYSC, I will not go. Go for what?”

The woman further claimed that the program imposes financial and physical difficulties on members while providing few rewards in exchange.
