President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending four weeks in Europe, stating that he is healthy, fit, and ready to resume his official duties.
The President arrived in Lagos from Paris on Tuesday evening, where he had spent the last part of his working vacation.
Tinubu responded to journalists’ questions about his health, saying he remains strong and ready to continue working.
“Rumours will always be emanate from politics. I am hale and strong. I am ready to work. The fact remains that I am here, healthy, sound and ready to go,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London before continuing to Paris.
The Presidency described the trip as a working vacation, but the President later stayed abroad for several days before returning to Nigeria on Tuesday.
His prolonged absence sparked political and public debate, with opposition figures questioning the duration of his stay and his decision not to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Presidency maintained that Tinubu remained involved in government affairs during his time abroad.
According to the Presidency, the President maintained contact with Nigerian officials and continued to provide leadership on governance issues.
Vise President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu at a number of official events, including the UN General Assembly.
Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron as well as businessman Vincent Bolloré during his visit to France.
The Presidency also stated that the President used the time to engage investors and discuss major investment projects, such as the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun State.
Tinubu is expected to stay in Lagos during Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary celebrations.
He is scheduled to attend official events commemorating the October 1 anniversary before returning to Abuja.
