Afrobeats sensation Davido has responded to criticism from APC praise singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara, claiming that patriotism entails speaking out about the country’s security issues rather than preserving political interests.
The exchange started after Rarara slammed Davido’s performance at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles, where the musician wore a tailored jacket with the names of abducted students and teachers from Oyo State and the phrase “Bring Them Home.”
Rarara stated that bringing Nigeria’s insecurity worries to the world scene would harm the country’s image.
Davido originally responded with a quick social media post mocking the singer’s words, sparking another response from Rarara.
The debate erupted as the Afrobeats star issued a more thorough statement justifying his behaviour.
Davido believes that bringing attention to the situation of kidnapped children and teachers should not be done via a political perspective.
He argued that standing silent in the face of instability would be irresponsible, and that individuals’ safety should take precedence over partisan considerations.
