Tiwa Savage, a popular Nigerian musician, has received outrage on social media for statements she made concerning the recent school kidnapping event in Oyo state.
The singer posted a video expressing her concern over the horrible crime, which allegedly featured the forced abduction of schoolchildren.
A teacher was killed in the incident, and videos of the scenario went viral, eliciting broad outrage.
Tiwa Savage revealed in the video that she learned about the event after viewing a post by fellow singer Spyro.
According to her, she was astonished that the issue was not garnering enough attention online, given its gravity.
Tiwa Savage also added that while trying to better grasp the situation, she came across a post from media personality KieKie, who allegedly stated that the incident occurred about two weeks prior.
“The kidnapping that happened in Oyo State, it was just yesterday that Spyro was speaking about it, that I heard about it. I tried to reach out to some people to know the background story because it was not trending. I saw KieKie’s post, and she said it was almost two weeks ago,” she said.
Her reaction, however, elicited conflicting reactions on the microblogging platform X (previously Twitter).
Many people chastised Tiwa Savage for reportedly disclosing the incident too late.
Some criticised the artist for not giving enough attention to vital national concerns.
Others labelled her “pro-Tinubu,” alleging that certain celebrities only respond when public pressure mounts.
A few social media users also mocked her emotional tone in the video, with others joking that she deserved movie Oscars for her response.
