SGF Akume’s first wife reacts after husband’s wedding to ex-Ooni queen Zaynab

Hon. Regina Akume, the first wife of Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has responded to rumours that her husband recently wed Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife.

At their son’s wedding reception in Makurdi, Benue State, Regina, who represents the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made the comments regarding her husband’s purported second marriage.

The federal politician took advantage of the occasion to discuss a topic that has recently attracted public attention in addition to honouring family.

Nigerians reacted instantly to a video of the incident that was taken during the occasion and later appeared online. She made her remarks a few days after Senator Akume celebrated turning 72.

Regina prayed a lot for her husband during her address, asking God to grant him wisdom, long life, and good health.

She emphasised that his ascent to national fame was based on his faith in God and reminded him of his solid Christian foundation.

Regina cautioned that giving up Christianity at this point would not lead to success or contentment.

She pushed him to stay devoted to Christ and encouraged him to “return fully to Christianity,” pointing out that his current situation was the result of divine grace rather than human effort.

Read what she said below:

“I pray that the Lord will increase his years, good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things right. And he should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To drop Christianity now and go for anything else, he will not be successful. So my advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ. We came all the way to the office of SGF, not through enemies but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working for us. I wish that he would come back to Christianity.”
