Putin plans to run for reelection in March 2024, according to a Friday, December 8 report from the official news agency TASS.
Putin may be able to hold onto power until at least 2030 after making the revelation following a ceremony at the Kremlin, the Russian president’s official home, according to TASS.
In an attempt to maintain his position as prime minister or head of state for more than 20 years, Putin will run for president a fifth time in the elections scheduled for March 17, 2024.
The upcoming elections will also mark the first time that residents of the occupied Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, annexed by Russia during the conflict, will participate in the presidential elections.
