Commuters along Benin-Asaba, highway, Edo State, were on Tuesday, attacked by heavily armed robbers.

According to report, the operation which started around 4pm, lasted for over 20 minutes. Many drivers drove their cars off the road while passengers ran into a nearby village, Ugoneki, for safety.

Operatives of the Nigerian Army and the Anti-Robbery Squad of the police arrived at the scene moment after the sporadic shooting began.

While it was not clear whether the robbers made away with any items or valuables, it was confirmed that two persons including the driver of a black SUV were shot.
