Following public accusations made against the well-known pastor by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, the Lagos State Police Command has formally entered the dispute surrounding Pastor Chris Okafor.
The development ushers in a new chapter in the story that has garnered a lot of interest on social media.
According to reports, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, has been instructed to launch an investigation into the allegation by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.
According to reports, the directive was given in spite of the police’s prior assertions that none of the purported victims had submitted a formal petition.
Police spokeswoman CSP Abimbola Adebisi claims that officers are now required to contact anyone who have publicly made accusations and invite Pastor Okafor to be questioned.
In order to guarantee a comprehensive investigation, she continued, investigators will make contact with anyone who are willing to assist.
According to reports, the Commissioner of Police gave his approval for the enquiry to proceed despite the lack of an official complaint.
In an attempt to get direct access to possible witnesses, the police also contacted a YouTuber who had previously spoken with some of the claimed victims.
Actress Doris Ogala, who claimed to have been in a long-term relationship with Pastor Okafor since 2017, publicly accused him of wrongdoing in December, sparking the uproar.
This comes only days after Pastor Okafor announced he would be taking a temporary leave of absence to go on a retreat with his wife, a decision that many have connected to the continuing issue.
Nigerians are keeping a careful eye on the developments as the police are now formally involved.
