A Nigerian pastor, Dr. Gideon Isah, has shared how he returned ₦120 million that was mistakenly transferred into his bank account by a woman.
The Lokoja-based cleric said the unexpected transaction occurred on a Sunday afternoon while he was away in Makurdi.
According to him, he immediately suspected the transfer was a mistake because he was not expecting such a large sum from anyone.
Rather than keep the money, Dr. Isah said he contacted his lawyer for advice. His lawyer reportedly instructed him to return the funds to the same account from which they were sent, and he followed that recommendation.
He explained that the sender, a woman from Kano, reached out the following day after visiting her bank to trace the transaction. She pleaded with him to refund the money and sent him a Moniepoint account number.
However, Dr. Isah noticed that the account details she provided were different from the account that originally transferred the funds. Following his lawyer’s advice, he refunded the money to the original sending account instead.
After receiving the refund, the woman reportedly called to express her gratitude and offered him a financial token in appreciation, which he declined.
Sharing the experience on Facebook, Dr. Isah wrote:
“Someone mistakenly sent 120M into my account on Sunday afternoon while I was away in Makurdi.
I wasn’t expecting such an amount from anyone, so I knew it might be a mistake. Yesterday, Monday morning, a number called from Kano, and the woman said she was the one who had mistakenly sent the money.
She had to go to her bank before they generated my number for her. She pleaded with me to send the money back, and I asked for her account number.
She sent a Monie-point account number instead of the bank account she sent the money from.
I had actually informed my lawyer when I received the alert on Sunday, and he advised me to send the money back to the same account it was sent from, which I did yesterday.
She received the alert, called, and offered prayers. She asked to send a token of appreciation, which I humbly declined.
When unexpected money comes into your account, return it to the same account it came from for security reasons.”
