A Nigerian man’s shocking revelation regarding Jehovah’s Witness marriage customs has caused debate on social media.
He asserted in a widely shared post on X (previously Twitter) that adherents of the religion are not allowed to divorce their spouse for any reason other than adultery, which means that abuse or irreconcilable differences are not acceptable grounds.
He clarified that this stringent requirement has occasionally caused members to purposefully cheat in order to be eligible for what the church refers to as a “approved” divorce.
Read his words below;
“It’s crazy, but some people literally commit adultery to get a divorce they’re otherwise forbidden from having.”
Online reactions to the revelation were intense. While some readers questioned the rule’s authenticity, others were astonished by how strict it was.
One commentator wrote, “Church and strict rules, it is well.” Another said, “This is a fat lie, so untrue.”
He concluded by pointing out that Jehovah Witness divorce laws are much more stringent than most people realise, and in some situations, they may even force members to violate the very regulations they are supposed to abide by.
