Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked fresh reactions online after declaring that no one could defeat him in a free and fair election in Nigeria, claiming he could even emerge victorious in a presidential race.
The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the remarks during a recent livestream with online streamer Carter Efe.
Despite expressing confidence in his popularity, Davido said he has no plans to venture into politics anytime soon.
According to the award-winning artiste, the country’s electoral process discourages him from seeking public office because he believes election results are often manipulated.
Speaking during the livestream, Davido said:
“Nobody could beat me in any election.”
He further added:
“I could even win a presidential election in Nigeria.”
However, he maintained that such an outcome would only be possible if elections were conducted in a truly free and fair manner.
Davido explained that until there is greater transparency in the country’s electoral system, he would rather focus on his music career than pursue political ambitions.
His comments have since generated widespread reactions online, with social media users debating his popularity, influence and whether celebrity status could translate into electoral success.
