A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has struggled to identify a single commodity whose price has dropped since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, despite declaring his intention to support the president’s re-election bid in 2027.
The man made the admission during a street interview in which he openly stated that he planned to vote for Tinubu in the next general election because he belongs to the ruling party.
During the conversation, the interviewer challenged him to name one product that had become cheaper under the current administration.
APC Supporter Defends Tinubu Despite Rising Prices
The interviewer explained that he had repeatedly asked Nigerians to identify goods whose prices had fallen since Tinubu became president but had yet to receive a convincing answer.
When asked to mention a commodity that had become more affordable, the APC supporter said he found it difficult to provide a specific example.
He explained that prices in Nigeria generally remain high once they increase, stating:
“I won’t say anything precisely because in Nigeria currently, anything that goes up remains there,” he said.
The man further argued that even if the government introduced policies intended to reduce prices, their effects might take time to become evident.
Supporter Points to Tinubu’s Education Policies
Rather than identify a cheaper commodity, the APC member defended Tinubu’s administration by highlighting its efforts in the education sector.
He maintained that the government had made significant contributions to education, pointing to students’ experiences as part of his argument.
However, the interviewer reminded him that the question concerned the cost of goods and services, asking him to focus on everyday commodities such as rice and other essential items.
The interviewer also challenged him to identify any product that had become more affordable under the APC-led government, given the financial pressure many Nigerians face.
‘No Product I Can Mention’
Despite repeated prompts, the man was unable to name a single item whose price had declined under Tinubu’s administration.
When pressed once again to provide an example, he replied:
“No product I can mention.”
The exchange has drawn attention to the ongoing debate over the cost of living and the economic difficulties facing Nigerian households.
Since assuming office in May 2023, Tinubu’s administration has introduced major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system. These policies have been accompanied by substantial cost-of-living pressures, although the prices of individual goods have fluctuated over time.
With the 2027 general election approaching, the economy, purchasing power and the affordability of essential commodities are expected to remain important issues in political discussions.
