“No light, No campaign” — Delta women protest, warn politicians ahead of 2027 elections

Long-term power outages have prompted residents of a Delta village to protest in the streets, with women spearheading calls for immediate government action.

Dozens of women are shown marching through their neighbourhood in a widely shared video on social media, expressing their displeasure with what they see as complete neglect and a lack of basic services.

The demonstrators in the video carried large signs that read things like “No Light, No Campaign” and “Isoko Need Light,” indicating their mounting rage ahead of upcoming political events.

In the video, one of the women made a heartfelt plea to the authorities, emphasising how important power is to everyday life and local small businesses.

Another demonstrator bemoaned hunger and called on the federal and state governments to take immediate action, linking the shortage of electricity supply to growing suffering.

A number of others expressed similar worries, stressing that having access to clean water and energy is still essential to their survival and well-being.

Since then, there have been several online responses to the protest, with many Nigerians voicing differing opinions regarding both the rally and more general governance concerns.
