An old social media comment by American pastor Israel Ford, in which he referred to his now-second wife, Shakayla Ford, as his “daughter,” has resurfaced online following the announcement of their marriage.
Ford, who leads LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, announced his marriage to Shakayla in a Facebook post on Sunday, sharing a video recorded inside the church.
The announcement has drawn attention to the pair’s earlier relationship, particularly a 2022 social media exchange in which the pastor publicly described Shakayla as his daughter.
Pastor previously referred to Shakayla as his daughter
In a photograph shared online in 2022, Ford expressed affection for Shakayla, describing her as his hardworking daughter.
He wrote:> “My hardest working daughter! I love you so much!!!”
Shakayla responded to the post, writing:> “Awwwe! I love you too!!!”
According to reports, Shakayla initially had a spiritual daughter relationship with the pastor before becoming his second wife.
Pastor describes monogamy as unbiblical
Ford’s marriage announcement has also attracted attention because of his reported views on marriage.
The pastor, who appeared alongside his first wife, Lydia Ford, in the church video, reportedly described monogamy as unbiblical.
His comments, alongside the resurfaced 2022 exchange, have generated discussion online about the transition from a spiritual mentorship relationship to marriage, as well as differing interpretations of biblical teachings on marriage and polygamy.
