Moment Malami, wife, son arrive in private jet to heroic welcome in Kebbi after meeting N1.5bn bail condition

Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) came in Kebbi on Thursday night with his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, and son, Abubakar Abdulaziz.

The family arrived after meeting their ₦1.5 billion bail condition set by the Federal High Court in Abuja. At the airport, supporters and relatives greeted them with a joyful and celebratory reception.

The Federal High Court granted bail to Malami, his wife, and son on Wednesday, requiring each to submit a ₦500 million release bond.

In addition, each was required to show two sureties who owned verified landed property in highbrow regions of the Federal Capital Territory.

In order to verify compliance, the court required the sureties to provide affidavits of means and other supporting paperwork.

The three were also forbidden from travelling overseas without prior authorisation and were required to surrender their foreign passports with the court registry.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Malami and his family on sixteen charges, including suspected financial offences and money laundering.

The family has refuted allegations of a multi-year, ₦8.7 billion bribery and illicit finance operation.

During the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Abubakar Malami was Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and AGF from November 11, 2015, until May 29, 2023.

Malami and his family were hailed by exuberant friends and family members who had gathered to celebrate their return.
