Mohbad’s DNA case adjourned to November 16 as family raises concerns over testing process

The court hearing on the DNA case involving late singer Mohbad has been adjourned to November 16, 2026, after a family seeking to be joined in the suit raised concerns about the testing process.

In an update on the matter, a representative of the party seeking to join the case said a new court-appointed officer had been assigned to look into their concerns regarding the proposed DNA test.

The representative expressed reservations about the centre slated to handle the process, particularly the role of its director, who he said was also involved in an earlier DNA-related request.

He questioned whether the centre would carry out the test itself or only collect samples and forward them to another laboratory. He said they wanted clarity on where the samples would be taken, the method of collection and handling, and the duration for transferring them to the testing facility.

He further claimed that a previous sample transfer took between six and eight months. According to him, the Alaba family later contacted the facility said to be responsible for the examination and was informed that it had not received any samples relating to Buford or Ejero. The result that eventually came back was inconclusive, he said.

The representative said the newly appointed officer had listened to their concerns and assured them she would look into the issues and report back. He added that they would wait for her response before deciding on their next steps.

He stressed that while they want the DNA test done as soon as possible, they insist the process must be transparent and its integrity guaranteed.
