A Nigerian man has spoken out online after people allegedly requested him to get a permit before utilising solar power at his home in Lagos State.
The experience, which he published on social media, has many Nigerians wondering if such a requirement exists or if it is an instance of impersonation or attempted extortion.
According to the man, a group of people walked up in front of his house, alleging that because he had installed a solar system, he needed approval and a permit to use it.
He claimed the demand surprised him since he had never heard of a regulation requiring households to obtain authorisation before using solar power in their houses.
Although the people allegedly claimed to be from a government agency, it is still unknown if they are indeed connected to the Lagos State Ministry of Housing Monitoring and Compliance or any other reputable organization.

“Please, Lagos people—does anyone know these people? They just showed up at front of our house saying because we installed solar that we must get permit and approval from them before we can use it. I’ve never heard of this in my life, and I don’t even know where they came from…”
