Malawi Govt bans controversial South African dancer, Zodwa Wabantu

Zodwa Wabantu, a South African dancer, has been barred from participating in a show in Malawi by the Malawi Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Wildlife.

On June 11, 2022, the performance was scheduled to take place at Dominic’s in Blantyre.

The entertainer, whose true name is Rebecca Libram, is notorious for performing half-naked and without panties on stage.

Michael Usi, Malawi’s Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Wildlife, said on Friday, June 3 that his agency has warned the show’s organizers that the event is unfit for Malawi.

However, Biggie Lu, one of the event’s organizers, stated that Zodwa Wabantu will not be performing pantless in Malawi.

In 2017, her show in Zimbabwe was cancelled after she reportedly refused to agree to perform while wearing underwear.

The performer was also banned in Zambia in 2018, with authorities arguing that her public performances undermine the country’s “national values”.
