Madonna University has reportedly expelled some nursing students following their involvement in a viral social media video recorded within a hospital environment.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) acknowledged that the students’ conduct was inappropriate and contrary to the ethical and professional standards expected of nursing students. However, the students’ body has appealed to the university management to reconsider the punishment.
NANS urged the university to replace the expulsion with a stern warning, arguing that the students should be given an opportunity to learn from their mistake and continue their education.
The association said expulsion could have serious long-term consequences for the affected students’ academic and professional careers, and appealed to Madonna University to “temper justice with mercy.”
Madonna University’s published student handbook describes expulsion as permanent dismissal, which may be imposed for very serious violations or repeated offences.
**Should the university reconsider the expulsion and give the students another chance?**
