Nollywood actor Laide Olabanji has called on Nigerians to give NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi an opportunity to lead the country.
Olabanji made the call in a caption accompanying a post shared on his Instagram page, where he criticised supporters of the current administration who, according to him, still want the government to return to power despite the economic difficulties Nigerians are facing.
‘You can’t afford fuel and you want the government back’
The actor questioned why Nigerians experiencing difficulties with electricity and fuel would support the continuation of the current administration.
He wrote:
“You’ve not had light since and you can’t even afford to buy fuel and yet you want the current government to come back,”
Olabanji argued that a government that fails the country can be replaced by another administration capable of rebuilding it.
“If a government can destroy it, another government is ready to rebuild it,” he said.
Actor references past administrations
Olabanji also referenced the administrations of former President Shehu Shagari and former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, with Ibrahim Babangida’s military government coming in between them.
While discussing the period, he claimed that Shagari “destroyed everything” and credited Idiagbon with helping to make Nigeria “great again” within four months.
His comments reflect his personal assessment of Nigeria’s political history and the country’s current situation.
Olabanji calls for support for Peter Obi
Concluding his message, the actor urged Nigerians to consider Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He wrote:
“Let’s give Peter Obi a chance to make the country great again,”
Olabanji’s comments have added to the ongoing political debate ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly discussions surrounding the performance of the current administration, the opposition and the choices available to Nigerian voters.
