A Nigerian woman describes how, despite having funded her education for four years, her younger sister did not acknowledge her at a graduation ceremony.

In a thorough essay, the woman noted that she took on financial responsibility for her sister’s education shortly after starting her first job, ensuring that fees were paid consistently even during difficult times.

She said that she made personal sacrifices, like going without regular meals, to secure her sister’s academic success.

However, during the graduation ceremony, the sister reportedly thanked various people, including God, their parents, friends, and professors, but did not mention her.

She admitted that the incident greatly hurt her, but she opted not to react right away.Months later, she broached the subject quietly, and her sister apologised, claiming she was overwhelmed and nervous during the speech.

Reflecting on her experience, the woman realised that silent sacrifices might sometimes go unrecognised, resulting in concealed anger.

She recommended people to communicate their efforts rather than assuming they will be recognised, emphasising that appreciation is essential for maintaining strong relationships.
