A Nigerian lady expressed frustration on social media about how the Nigeria Police Force handled her theft complaint.
According to her account, she reported the loss of her phone and laptop to a police station and was asked if she suspected anyone in her residential complex.
After mentioning a person she believed was connected to the incident, she claimed that officers questioned the suspect and later revealed that she had identified him.
The woman questioned why her identity was not kept private, expressing concern about the potential consequences given that she lives in the same compound as the suspect.
“The Nigerian police have no idea what confidential informant is because tell me why my gadgets, my phone, my laptop were stolen and I came to the police station to report and you, that is a policeman or inspector or whatever, you asked me. If I have anybody I’m suspecting in my compound, I feel like could be associated with the theft. And I told you, yes, that there’s this one person that I’m suspecting. You went to go and question that person. And after everything, you not tell the person that I was the one that said he’s the thief. Are you not supposed to keep me anonymous? If that person come back home with me for compound, what do you think is going to happen?”
