A workplace incident has prompted internet debate when a guy who assisted in saving a colleague from choking was later reported to HR for alleged sexual harassment.
Coworkers described the man as quiet but pleasant, and said he hurried to help the lady during a lunch break at their office around two months ago.
According to tales published online, the lady abruptly began choking on her food during the meal, sparking alarm among those there.
Witnesses say the man rushed in and used a choking rescue method to assist her breathe again. The technique entailed stepping behind the victim, wrapping arms around the stomach area, and using inward and upward pressure to drive the obstruction out.
After numerous efforts, the food was removed and the woman was able to breathe again, eliciting relief and praise from those around her. The man apparently questioned if she was all right.
She nodded but rushed to the loo without saying much. Two days later, he was summoned by the company’s human resources department.
According to the story, the same colleague filed a complaint alleging that the personal contact during the rescue made her uncomfortable.
She claimed that the man’s body was too close during the encounter, and that she felt his private area as he was assisting her.
The claim prompted a formal workplace investigation that lasted almost a week.
During that period, the man remained to work while the human resources department assessed the situation.
Following the investigation, the corporation purportedly cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Despite being cleared, the incident influenced how he dealt with his colleague.
The man apparently began to remove himself from her and limit interactions to work-related topics.
He also ceased involving her in casual social encounters with other coworkers. The woman then apologised and said that her reaction was the result of past trauma.
However, the man preferred to keep his distance, claiming he was merely protecting himself from future misunderstandings.
