Kano gov nominates Garo as deputy

Alhaji Murtala Garo’s name has been sent to the Kano State House of Assembly by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf for consideration and confirmation as Deputy Governor.

Mustapha Muhammad, the governor’s chief press secretary, announced the nomination in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement claims that the nomination was made in compliance with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which gives a governor the authority to designate a deputy governor in the event of a vacancy.

On March 27, 2026, Abdussalam Gwarzo, the former Deputy Governor, resigned voluntarily, leaving the position open.

The governor said the nomination followed wide consultations with key stakeholders across the state.

“Following wide consultations with key stakeholders, the governor has requested the Assembly to grant the necessary approval for Garo’s nomination,” the statement partly read.
