Kaduna train attack: Terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu arrested in Egypt

Mallam Tukur Mamu, the chief mediator between terrorists and the passengers abducted on a train headed for Kaduna in March, was apprehended in Cairo, Egypt’s capital, together with his family.

According to Daily Trust, the Nigerian government ordered the arrest of the publisher of the Desert Herald daily, who is headquartered in Kaduna.

Mamu was detained at the Cairo International Airport for 24 hours while en route to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj. He is now being returned to Nigeria.

Mamu told Daily Trust that he departed Nigeria on Tuesday and that no evidence of wrongdoing was discovered in his hands after an investigation by Egyptian security services.

Mamu insinuated a plan by the Nigerian government to detain him in another country just as was done to Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, but that could not happen because the Egyptian government found that his papers were genuine.

It will be recalled that Mamu pulled out of the negotiation with terrorists after he alleged a threat to his life and attempted blackmail by the Nigerian Government.
