Chelsea were crushed by PSG over two legs and it’s given some pundits a chance to point out that this project will never work.
TNT Sports had the Chelsea – PSG came tonight, and at full time both Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves the feeble Chelsea they had seen before them.
The latter in particular was very scathing about the Chelsea project which was so feeble on the pitch tonight. He compared it to the Chelsea teams of old, which were laced with elite, experienced quality from front to back.
He called on those in charge to think about what they’re putting together. Some of us have known that since day one.
“This club should want to win the biggest trophies. The Premier Leagues and the Champions Leagues. Right now they’re miles off it. They’ve signed some brilliant young players, but right now they’ve got too many young players,” Hargreaves said.
“It’s great to have these young kids, but you need to have experience. The guys who own this club, and who buy these players need to understand that. You can’t have three academy kids in a back four against the European champions. It’s impossible, it’s never going to work.
“Eight – two over two legs. It’s too much.”
