“It’s better you leave the church and get out” — Pastor blasts members who give ₦1,000 as offering

In the viral video, the pastor said church members need to be aware of their financial obligations and appreciate the expenses that come with running a church, such as rent, maintenance and staff salaries.

He stressed that even though churches do not charge worshippers a fee to attend services, members still ought to support the upkeep of their place of worship.

When describing how to spot people he views as unsupportive of a church, the pastor said the way they react whenever money is discussed can expose their attitude towards the ministry.

“You want to know the enemies of your church? When you talk about money, they’re angry. They always complain. Just know that they don’t love your church. They’re not interested in your church,” he said.

He further wondered why a person who had worshipped at a church for a whole year would not yet have considered what they owe the ministry financially.

In his view, not charging an entrance fee does not excuse worshippers from having a financial duty to support the church.

“There’s no gate fee in the church. Doesn’t mean that there’s no cost to you. Have some sense in your head. Ask yourself,” he added.

The cleric further drove home his point by breaking down how much a church could raise if members gave ₦1,000 every Sunday.

He explained that ₦1,000 per week from one member adds up to about ₦4,000 in a month.

Using a hypothetical congregation of 1,000 members, he estimated that the church would collect around ₦4 million monthly if everyone contributed.

Even then, he argued, that amount would still have to cover several expenses, including the cost of the church premises, daily running costs, maintenance and staff salaries.

The pastor expressed frustration with members who, in his view, do not appreciate these financial pressures yet criticise appeals for contributions.

He ended his remarks with a stern warning to members who repeatedly resist discussions about money and giving.

“You are wicked. Very wicked. You are an enemy of the church. Enemy of the church. And it’s better you leave the church and get out,” he said.
