Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has once again denied ever describing the President as an “illegitimate president.”

Bwala has faced similar allegations over comments he was reportedly said to have made about Tinubu while he was still in the opposition. However, he has consistently rejected claims that he ever made such statements.

Speaking during an interview on the KAA TRUTHS podcast, Bwala attributed the description of Tinubu as an “illegitimate president” to activist and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Aisha Yesufu.

According to Bwala, Yesufu’s continued position that Tinubu is an illegitimate president, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2023 presidential election, reflects what he described as a lack of understanding of the law.

“Nobody in Nigeria, even the opposition, including Kenneth Okonkwo, called the President illegitimate. It is only Aisha, and that is because she is ignorant and does not understand what the law is,” Bwala stated.

He further argued that once an election dispute has been taken to the highest court and the court delivers a final judgment upholding the election, the outcome should be respected.

“Even if a person won an election that was flawed, and that election was litigated to the highest court of the land, whose decision is final, and the court ruled that the election was valid, from that moment, you should back away,” he said.

When asked directly whether he had ever described Tinubu as an illegitimate president in the past, Bwala maintained that he had not.

“I never called the President illegitimate. If you have it, pull it out,” he added.
