It is better to buy a bottle of champagne for ₦550,000 in the club than ₦200,000 outside; you’re not just paying for the drink, you’re paying for the experience — socialite Tosin Akinbo

Socialite Tosin Akinbo has explained why he believes customers should not compare the price of a bottle of champagne in a nightclub with its cost price outside the club.

Speaking on the Talk Your Talk podcast, Akinbo addressed the argument that instead of spending ₦550,000 on a bottle in a club, people could simply buy the same champagne for “two hundred and something thousand” elsewhere.

He said, “The thing about the club is that while we talk to people, some people tell you that, Ah, instead of going to the club to buy champagne of five hundred and fifty thousand, I’m gonna buy it at the cost price of two hundred and something thousand.”

According to him, the price charged by the club goes beyond the cost of the champagne because of the services and entertainment provided to customers.

“But the champagne did not come into the club and we said it is five hundred and fifty thousand. There are so many things attached to, like, the service we’re giving you. There’s bottle service, you know, there’s someone attending to you, standing on your table.”

Akinbo further pointed out that the club offers an experience that customers would not necessarily get by simply sitting elsewhere to drink.

He added, “We have, like, fire dancers, we have strippers, we have, like, fashion walk shows, we have, like, hype men that will, you know, take you to, like, different places mentally, you know. We have DJs, the speakers, the fuel, the diesel, everything, you understand?”

He therefore maintained that customers should see the money spent at a club as payment for the entire experience, not just the bottle.

“So there are so many experiences that actually, you know, put in place to make people know that you’re not just paying for a bottle, but you’re paying for an experience, yeah.”
