According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the Israeli military has confirmed that it is adhering to the recently announced ceasefire with Iran while maintaining a heightened state of readiness amid ongoing regional tensions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it is observing the terms of the ceasefire in line with directives from the country’s political leadership. A military spokesperson noted that while hostilities with Iran have been paused, Israeli forces remain vigilant and prepared to respond swiftly to any violations of the agreement.
“According to the directives of the political leadership, the IDF is observing the ceasefire in the campaign against Iran and remains on high alert in defense, ready to respond to any breach,” the statement said.
The ceasefire, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump late Tuesday, provides for a two-week suspension of military operations between Washington and Tehran. The pause is intended to open a window for diplomatic engagement following weeks of escalating conflict.
Despite the halt in direct confrontation with Iran, the Israeli military clarified that its operations in Lebanon remain ongoing. The IDF confirmed it continues to carry out combat and ground missions against Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group, signalling that the ceasefire does not extend to all fronts of the broader conflict.
“The IDF continues combat and ground operations against Hezbollah,” the statement added, underscoring Israel’s continued focus on what it considers immediate security threats along its northern border.
Reports from The Times of Israel indicate that the Israeli Air Force has not conducted airstrikes inside Iran since approximately 3:00 a.m., suggesting initial compliance with the ceasefire terms.
The agreement was reached just hours before a deadline set by President Trump, who had warned of severe consequences if Iran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and agree to negotiations. His remarks had heightened fears of a broader escalation before the temporary truce was announced.
The conflict has significantly intensified since late February, when the United States and Israel launched a coordinated offensive against Iran. The campaign has resulted in heavy casualties and widespread instability across the region.
In response, Iran has carried out retaliatory drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as locations in Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states hosting U.S. military installations. Tehran also imposed restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about global energy supplies and international shipping.
