Isaac Fayose blasts senate leaders over airport lineup to greet Seyi Tinubu

Isaac Fayose, a social media pundit and the brother of a former governor of Ekiti State, has harshly condemned Nigerian Senate leaders and other high-ranking government officials for their behaviour during the President’s son Seyi Tinubu’s airport arrival.

Fayose denounced the image of prominent politicians lining up on the airport runway to greet Tinubu, who arrived on a presidential jet, in a widely shared video on the internet.

Although such etiquette is often saved for the President, Vice President, or visiting Heads of State, footage from the occasion showed high-ranking officials waiting to greet him.

Fayose claimed that the display undermines the dignity of elected office and called it disrespectful and a blatant example of political “eye-service.”

He questioned why politicians tasked with handling Nigeria’s security and economic issues would participate in what he described as needless acts of allegiance.

Fayose claims that Seyi Tinubu has no constitutional position that warrants this kind of treatment.

He cautioned that elevating members of the President’s family runs the risk of obfuscating the distinction between democracy and monarchy, adding that such actions are a reflection of the nation’s ongoing problems.

He went on to draw a comparison between the fervour seen at the airport and what he called the “slow pace of legislative action on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.”

On social media, there have been conflicting responses to the video. While some Nigerians have supported Fayose’s criticism, others have backed the authorities in question.
