Iran Goes All-Out Against US-Linked Ships; Three Oil Tankers Bombed In Hormuz

According to a report by Times of India (TOI) on Monday October 12, 2026, Iran carried out a series of attacks on oil tankers in the strategic Strait of Hormuz after the US military struck a vessel on October 11th that was sailing from an Iranian port off the coast of Oman.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said on Sunday that a super tanker struck a naval mine in the southern Strait of Hormuz, triggering an explosion and a fire in the engine room.

In a statement, the IRGC Navy claimed the vessel was carrying crude oil toward the strait’s exit while its navigation and identification systems were switched off. It also alleged that the tanker was traveling along an unauthorized route.

The IRGC Navy described the incident as the third such case involving oil tankers since October 10th, claiming that the vessels struck naval mines and caught fire while using unauthorized routes.

The Iranian force warned that ships passing through the strait with their navigation and identification systems switched off would be considered hostile and could face a forceful response.

Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that an outbound tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile, causing a fire on board.

According to the UKMTO, the crew was safe, but the extent of the damage remained unclear, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.

The IRGC Navy had also reported two similar incidents on October 11th and October 10th, claiming that super tankers carrying crude oil struck naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC Navy noted that another tanker’s navigation and positioning systems had been switched off before the explosion.
