The U.K. maritime agency reported this morning that an Iranian gunboat attacked a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center, a boat from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard approached the ship and “fired upon the vessel,” causing “heavy damage to the bridge.”
It stated that no fire or environmental impact had been reported, and all crew members were safe.
According to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard-affiliated publication Nour News, “a container ship that ignored warning was fired on by the Iranian armed forces and led to extensive damage to the ship.”
The attack comes after US President Donald Trump extended the two-week U.S. ceasefire with Iran due to Tehran’s government being “seriously fractured.”
Trump said the ceasefire, which he earlier had said would end on Wednesday, would continue “until such time as” Iran’s leaders and representatives submit a “unified proposal” to end the war with the U.S. and Israel.
