According to report by Time of India (TOI) on Monday 21, September 2026, The skies over the Strait of Hormuz have erupted into another flash point as Iran claims it has destroyed an advanced reconnaissance aircraft during a surveillance mission over one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

Iran’s army says its air defense forces have shot down an advanced orbiter reconnaissance drone over the Strait of Hormuz during what it described as a reconnaissance mission over the strategic waterway.

The announcement marks yet another high-profile drone interception claimed by Iranian forces in one of the world’s most closely watched maritime corridors.

According to the Iranian Army’s public relations office, the drone was detected and destroyed at 6:30 p.m. local time using domestically developed air defense systems.

Iranian military officials say the aircraft was targeted while carrying out surveillance operations over the Strait of Hormuz before being successfully brought down.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained at the center of growing military activity, and this latest drone interception adds another dramatic chapter to the escalating series of incidents reported in recent weeks.

Iranian forces say multiple unmanned aircraft have been intercepted around the strategic waterway as aerial surveillance activity continues.

Earlier, Iran also claimed it destroyed US MQ1 and MQ9 drones operating in and around the region, including an MQ9 that it said was brought down over Kesh Island.

Iranian officials have continued to highlight these interceptions as evidence of repeated drone activity over sensitive areas surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
