“I’m older than all the governors and president” — Pete Edochie speaks on his relationship with Nigerian leaders

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has recounted how the government reportedly provided ₦500,000 in financial assistance to an ailing colleague following his appeal for support.

The legendary actor shared the experience during an interview at his residence in Enugu, explaining that he had used the opportunity to draw the government’s attention to his colleague’s health challenges.

According to Edochie, his appeal received a positive response, as the government sent the actor ₦500,000 approximately one week after he made the request.

Recalling the incident, the veteran actor said he had raised the matter because one of his colleagues was seriously ill and needed assistance.

“During that period, one of my colleagues was ill, so I used that opportunity to call on the government to come help him.”

He further disclosed that the intervention came shortly after his appeal.

“The following week, the government sent him half a million naira.”

Edochie also spoke about his relationship with Nigeria’s political leaders, describing the interactions as similar to those between a father and his sons.

The actor explained that his age and experience influenced the way he communicated with governors and the president.

“I’m older than all the governors and president, so when I talk to them, it’s like a father talking to a son,” he said.

His account highlights his reported appeal to government officials on behalf of an ailing colleague and his perspective on engaging with the country’s political leadership.
