“I’m going to cut you off” – Lady sparks debate after listing her one-week expectations for potential suitors

A Nigerian lady has stirred debate on social media after outlining the financial and romantic gestures she expects from men pursuing her, warning that she would end communication with any suitor who failed to meet her expectations within seven days.

In a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the woman explained that she expects men who express romantic interest in her to demonstrate their intentions through actions rather than relying solely on conversations.

She identified several gestures she considers important during the initial stages of getting to know a potential partner, including buying her food, sending flowers, giving her money and offering to pay for her nails.

According to her, a man who fails to make such efforts within the first week would risk losing the opportunity to continue communicating with her.

She also questioned why some men expected women to provide emotional support and listen to their personal problems without making comparable efforts to demonstrate affection and care.

Emphasising her position, she said:

“If we start talking as a man, and within a week, you’ve not bought me food, you’ve not done nice things for me, like sending me flowers, sending me money, or telling me to go and get my nails done, I’m going to cut you off. I be comedy abi I be therapist? If you need somebody to talk to, go and talk to your mom. I’m not your mom.”

Her remarks have reignited discussions about financial expectations during courtship, with attention shifting to whether spending money early in a relationship is a reasonable way to demonstrate genuine interest.

While some may interpret her demands as a way of identifying men willing to invest in a relationship, others may question whether a seven-day period is sufficient for potential partners to establish mutual understanding and expectations.

The incident has added to the ongoing debate about the balance between financial generosity, emotional support and genuine connection in modern dating.
