“I’m a pastor and also a professor” — Banky W opens up on life after losing 2023 election

Popular Nigerian singer, filmmaker and entrepreneur, Bankole Wellington, better known as Banky W, has opened up on how his defeat in the 2023 elections reshaped his outlook on life, faith and purpose, as he marks one year in pastoral ministry.

In a lengthy post shared on social media, the entertainer recounted how the setback compelled him to seek divine guidance for his next steps.

Banky W noted that he found it difficult at first to decide whether to focus on politics, entertainment, business or ministry, but later understood that he could combine all his passions without having to give up any.

Reflecting on his political disappointment, he wrote, “In 2023, I lost an election. And while the experience inspired me in many ways, it also broke my heart into a million little pieces.”

He stated that the experience ultimately made him surrender his plans to God and have a rethink about his purpose in life.

According to the singer, he was torn between leadership, entertainment, business and ministry, before coming to the realisation that he didn’t have to choose one over the other.

He wrote, “Turns out, God wasn’t trying to put me in a box. He was expanding my assignment.”

Banky W disclosed that he currently serves as an associate pastor and global ambassador at We Are Union Church, in addition to his roles as a teacher and leader at Union College.

He admitted that shuttling between Lagos and the Washington DC area has been quite challenging, but noted that the journey has been rewarding.

The entertainer also thanked church leaders, Stephen and Zai Chandler, for their impact on his faith, family and personal growth.

He further reassured fans that despite his new roles in ministry and academia, he has no plans to quit entertainment.

In conclusion, Banky W expressed appreciation for the new doors that opened for him following his setback in politics.

He wrote, “One year down. A lifetime of purpose ahead.”
