A ride-hailing driver in Abuja reported an unusual incident with a female passenger who allegedly failed to pay her fare.
According to the driver, after dropping the passenger off at her destination, he requested payment, but she told him to call her account number, claiming she would transfer the fare through someone else.
“I waited like 15 minutes and didn’t see the alert, so I asked, ‘Madam how far nau? It’s taking too long for you to make this transfer, what’s going on?’” the driver said. “She told me to hold on, that someone else was doing the transfer.”
Passenger fails to settle
The driver reported that the passenger kept delaying payment for nearly an hour.
“She started begging me, saying she doesn’t have money. I told her if you’re going to meet someone, at least have your own transport money. Many Abuja girls are fond of doing these things,” he said.
He went on to say that he had previously dealt with passengers who failed to pay.
“Last year December, one lady told me she’d send the money when she got home. Till today she has blocked me, and my 5k is still with her,” he added.
Wig confiscated over unpaid fare
Eventually, the driver directed the passenger to exit his vehicle and took her wig as collateral.
“She has been calling me since yesterday. If she wants her wig back, she’ll have to pay for a ride. I won’t take it to her, and I’ll double the amount. Her money don increase,” he said.
The driver emphasised that passengers should have respect and dignity by ensuring they can pay for their rides.
“I no come this Abuja to come dey play with una. If you no get money, don’t book a ride,” he concluded.
