A Nigerian lady has sparked debate online after expressing frustration over what she described as p00r parenting being excused under the label of “gentle parenting.”
In a video shared on social media, she argued that some parents overlook b@d behaviour instead of correcting their children, leaving others to d3al with the consequences in public spaces.
According to her, children who are old enough to understand instructions should be taught basic values such as sitting still, greeting elders, respecting boundaries, and responding to correction.
She described children who are not taught these behaviours as “untrained” and suggested that parents should refrain from bringing them to social gatherings if they are unable to manage their conduct.
Sharing a personal experience, she recalled being at a salon when another customer’s child repeatedly touched her phone while the mother allegedly made no effort to stop the behaviour.
The lady also praised her two-year-old neighbour, noting that the child already greets adults respectfully and even kneels while greeting. She said this demonstrates that good manners can be instilled in children from an early age.
Her comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some people agreeing that discipline and manners should be taught early, while others argued that children develop at different rates and that parenting approaches vary from one family to another.
