Tonto Dikeh, a Nigerian actress, has spoken out about her past battle with addiction, using her experience to advocate against drug abuse and stigma.
Dikeh revealed the information in a lengthy social media post in which she reflected on a difficult period in her life and explained how substance abuse became an escape from emotional pain that she struggled to express.
The actress encouraged people struggling with addiction to seek help, while also urging the public to show compassion rather than condemn those trapped in substance abuse.
Tonto Dikeh reflected on her experience, stating that she was once perceived as chaotic and broken, but that her actions were motivated by deeper pain.
She wrote, “I was once the chaos people judged. The noise. The mess. The broken decisions.”
Dikeh went on to say that her addiction did not define her, but rather was an attempt to escape an unknown pain.
She stated, “Drugs weren’t the problem, they were the symptom. Addiction wasn’t my identity, it was my escape from pain I didn’t know how to name.”
The actress also urged people not to give up on those struggling with drug addiction, stating that recovery is still possible.
Dikeh said, “So hate the drugs. Hate the addiction. But never stop praying for the person trapped inside it. because that person is not weak, not worthless, not beyond redemption.”
She concluded her message by describing herself as living proof that anyone can recover from a difficult past and rebuild their lives.
