Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that if elected president in the 2027 election, he will personally lead his administration.
Obi made the statement during an interview about former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and how it handled corruption.
The former governor of Anambra State suggested that Buhari was unable to exert sufficient control over his administration, saying he would take a different approach if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria.
Obi said, “He (Buhari) was not in charge. The difference is that I would be in charge.”
The presidential candidate also pledged to combat corruption, citing fuel subsidies as one of the main issues affecting the policy.
He claimed that the main problem that needed to be addressed was corruption rather than the subsidy itself.
Obi added, “From day one, I talked about subsidy. Corruption is the problem with subsidy. I will remove the corruption and return the subsidy.”
The 2027 presidential candidate added that if elected, his administration would eliminate systemic corruption and reinstate the fuel subsidy.
He maintained that the burden on the nation would be greatly lessened if corruption within the subsidy arrangement was reduced.
Obi’s remarks coincide with political parties and presidential candidates preparing for the 2027 general election. It is anticipated that issues of governance, corruption, and living expenses will continue to be central to the campaign.
