Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, shared an experience he said occurred before the 2023 presidential election while attending a meeting organised by the National Peace Committee.
Sowore said he was seated next to President Bola Tinubu during the event and recalled that Catholic Bishop Matthew Kukah addressed participants as part of the peace committee’s activities before the election.
Sowore said he observed Tinubu making remarks in Yoruba while Father Kukah was speaking and explained that he considered the bishop a respected religious leader, adding that he would not repeat the comments that were made during the occasion.
In Sowore’s words: “I was sitting next to Tinubu in 2023 before the election, and I was the next person to him. Father Kukah was there at the Presidential Election Peace Committee. Father Kukah was speaking, and Tinubu was making fun of Father Kukah. He was just making fun of Father Kukah. I said, ‘Father is supposed to be a well-respected Catholic bishop.’ He was saying things that I can’t even repeat here about Father Kukah. He was speaking in Yoruba.”
